Tour starts in Volta Redonda

Conservatória is a small colonial city, founded in the 18th century and located about 150km north-east of Rio de Janeiro. The city was able to grow and prosper thanks to the coffee production in the area. Conservatória is nicknamed "terra da Seresta" (land of Serenades) as on Fridays and Saturdays small groups of musicians roam the streets of the city playing serenade music, a tratition that started back in the 1930s. A number of reminders of colonial times are scattered around the city, like the old steamlocomotive and a tunnel and former aquaduct, both built by slaves.

Conservatória is also well known by Ufologists all around the world for the alleged UFO spottings over the nearby Serra da Beleza.
